Jon Bones’ Jones has consistently claimed that Tom Aspinall does not match up with his resume. Though Jones is correct, it doesn’t mean Aspinall shouldn’t get the chance to face him. It all started when Aspinall subbed in for UFC 295 when Jones was out on a pectoral injury. The Brit won the interim title and has wanted a title unification ever since.
Aspinall recently blew out Curtis Blaydes at UFC 304 in exactly sixty seconds. After his interim HW title defense, the Brit again doused a challenge to Jones. In all his wisdom, funnyman Jones decided it was time to answer the allegations. In the past, Jones has overwhelmingly debated with fans on the topic of his potential matchup with Aspinall. He did the same this time by allegedly doxing someone.
If you want me to fight Tom call and text me, I’ll respond for the next few days...If the phone ends up getting turned off, just keep texting. You’ll get a reply soon.Jon Jones via X (@JonnyBones)
This is naturally a sly dig toward hardcore fans complaining about Jones vs. Stipe Miocic. For flashy outcomes and skill-to-skill pressure tests, Jones vs. Aspiall makes sense. But Jones is settling for a maiden defense and a large $15 million payday when he returns for a legacy fight with Miocic. They are projected to duke it out at the November UFC 309 PPV headliner later this year.
In an exclusive conversation with sports columnist Kevin Iole, UFC CEO Dana White confirmed the projected date while doubling down on P4P debates. He also said this would gradually be Miocic’s last fight ever. Hence, there’s increased scrutiny on Aspinall finally facing Jones if he stays on. Amid all these, Jones shared a phone number on X. As such, the leak has gone viral.
Jon Jones often debates with fans online about his legacy. Most recently, it has been around the heavyweight title unification with Tom Aspinall. Undefeated for sixteen years, he recently made the ESPN SportsCentury project ranking list of ‘Top 100’ athletes. Nevertheless, even hardcore fans have been unforgiving of him for avoiding Aspinall.
With Miocic’s last fight coming in March 2021, Jones knows that many fans want him to fight Aspinall instead of Miocic. He himself fought and won the vacant heavyweight belt with a submission of Ciryl Gane last in March 2023. Hence, he gave in to the demands rather extraordinarily by doxing someone. Here’s what fans think of it:
A prime reaction ( @TruthfulUfcFan) asked – “Who tf did you just dox bro?” No, Jones’ phone number on X is not real. A big clue is the location at the top of the number: Glenview, Illinois. If anything, this could end up being Belal Muhammad or someone in Team Valle Flow Striking. Or even old rival Daniel Cormier.
Subsequently, Jon Jones mentions in yet another tweet that Aspinall or fans could test the number mentioned above if it disconnects again and again. In another follow-up tweet, the heavyweight champion acknowledged how funny he is. Some fans claimed he is ducking; all in all, it does not look like Tom Aspinall is in luck this year.
