Michael ‘Venom’ Page is a much more experienced fighter than Ian Garry. However, ‘The Future’ has managed to remain undefeated until this point and UFC 303 could be a decisive matchup in his career. Renato Moicano believes Ian Garry can beat Michael ‘Venom’ Page if he makes a simple adjustment in his strategy.
Renato Moicano seemed excited when he addressed the upcoming showdown between Ian Garry and Michael Page on his YouTube channel. The Brazilian already declared that the undefeated welterweight is nowhere close to MVP when it comes to striking. However, according to Moicano, Garry could win the fight if he takes the former Bellator star down.
We saw Kevin Holland took him down one or two times and Kevin Holland doesn't shoot for takedowns. I don't even think Kevin Holland goes to a fight thinking about takedowns.Renato Moicano on Money Moicano
However, there is a problem. Moicano pointed out that Garry is currently training at the Chute Boxe Academy in Brazil. The academy has a good ground game culture, but it is not known for its wrestling. According to Moicano, Garry’s jiu-jitsu would not be enough to defeat Michael ‘Venom’ Page. To beat the MVP, he needs wrestling.
Moicano ruled that if the fight is on the feet, MVP will have the advantage. But if Ian Garry shoots for takedowns, he probably should win the fight. But who did Renato Moicano pick to be the winner of this matchup? According to Moicano, the former Bellator star should ultimately walk away with the victory.
Logan Storley is a former Bellator world champion. He has shared the cage with both MVP and Ian Garry which makes him a credible analyst for this matchup. Storley fought Page for the interim Bellator title in 2022 which he won by split decision. Although Storley has never fought Garry, they used to spar all the time back when Garry was training at Kill Cliff in Florida.
The former Bellator champion recently did an exclusive interview with Bloody Elbow. There he talked about how he sees this fight go down and who would he pick to be the likely winner of the UFC 303 matchup.
It’s a really really interesting fight. I think if Ian Garry goes for the calf kicks and uses his really great head kick maybe he could slow him down... But I honestly think that’s a toss-up fight for me. I truly don’t know what is going to happen. I think it’s going to be a very close fight.Logan Storley via Bloody Elbow
Storley does not think MVP would win the fight by knocking Garry out. However, he believes Garry could land a potential knockout kick. Storley said that Ian Garry has good high kicks and MVP could potentially walk on to one of those. However, Page’s speed could be a problem for the undefeated welterweight and Garry needs to throw in his calf kicks to slow him down.
