Though Colorado Avalanche won the match against Minnesota Wild with a 3-2 victory, they lost the scrum of ice which included Bowen Byram and Matthew Boldy. Avs’ defenceman couldn’t hold his own as he fell on the ice during Wednesday’s game.
Wild forward Matthew Boldy went full mad mode as he smashed the Stanley Cup Champion on ice. The punches flew in consecutively while Byram could only resist and try punching back before falling on the ice. Officials had to intervene to separate the duo, avoiding a further complicated situation.
As soon as the video clip of the thrashing went online, NHL fans took to social media to shower concern over Bowen Byram. It wasn’t long ago that the defenceman suffered from concussion problems and left the roster for a long time.
Fans showed their worry and also started questioning why he dropped the gloves given his current ‘ok’ condition. The whole fight took place after Bowen Byram cleared Matthew Boldy hard in front of the net. The forward challenged the defenceman only to be the winner of the fight.
Nevertheless, fans’ reactions were quite mixed up. Some enjoyed their fight, while some showed concern for the defenceman. Both Byram and Avalanche alternate captain Nathan Mackinnon played a crucial role in the team’s victory. Goalie Alexander Georgiev commented, “We know the standings and we know the other team is close to us”.
“We knew it was big points for us and kind of every game for us now is playoff intensity. We know we have to get points and get higher up in the standings, for sure.” Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 16 shots for the team, while Kirill Kaprisov enjoyed his 31st goal for Minnesota.
Since the All-Star break, the team has lost 5 of its 6 games, outsourcing 19-10 in process, according to APnews. Wild coach Dean Evason said, “We played great. We didn’t get a reward”. “Obviously, it’s a results league and we’re (ticked) off that we didn’t get two points.”
“How do you not feel good about the way you played, right? Yeah, we’re frustrated with the end result and they’ll be very mad and disappointed, which is great. They’ll come back hungry and ready to go in two days.”
Colorado coach Jared Bednar praised Mackinnon commenting post-game, “I feel like he’s picking up his game here recently”. “The bigger the moment, the better he plays.
“Last night, the night before, I thought he was great and then tonight, he kind of led the charge for us tonight, especially on the offensive side of it. Looked like he had good legs. He’s making plays and getting dangerous on a bunch of occasions.”
