Isolated thunderstorms possible through Wednesday, better chance of rain over weekend

Smoky skies and hot temperatures remain in place Tuesday. Monsoon moisture rotating up from the southwest will generate a few showers over the region today, primarily over Idaho on Wednesday. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms are possible in the mountain regions each afternoon through midweek with near-average temperatures. Smoke and haze will likely remain in place as well with minor improvements through Wednesday.

Then, look for partly cloudy skies on Thursday and Friday with a slight chance of an afternoon thunderstorm. I expect the valley will remain quiet with the most significant threat over the higher terrain. Temperatures will remain in the mid to upper 90's for the end of the week.

Additional moisture moving into the area will increase our chances for showers and thunderstorms for the weekend. Especially on Sunday when we'll see the best chance of showers along with cooler temperatures in the 80's. Early model guidance suggests that we could see a decent amount of rain over the weekend...if the forecast holds. We'll be watching.
