Former United States Champion intends to exit WWE as contract is set to expire this summer: Reports

Despite recording profits this year, WWE’s attitude toward contract renewals has been scrutinized by fans. Top stars such as Becky Lynch and Chad Gable are still yet to sign a new deal, with the former becoming a free agent on June 1. Having said that, a former WWE United States Champion’s contract will expire this summer. The name in question is none other than Ricochet.

According to PWInsider, the high-flyer has given notice to the company that he’ll be leaving after his current contract runs out. The report states that the One and Only will soon be written out of storylines ahead of the expiration date. Having said that, a WWE source says that they are giving him credit for “betting on himself.”

This comes as a huge surprise to the wrestling world. Without doubt, Ricochet is one of the best in-ring competitors in WWE. Therefore, there’s no denying that he’ll be arguably the hottest free agent in town this summer. For weeks, the 35-year-old has been feuding with Bron Breakker and Ilja Dragunov on Monday Night Raw.

In fact, fans speculated that this three-way feud would culminate in a triple-threat at the upcoming Clash at the Castle PLE. However, it seems unlikely that will happen. Needless to say, it’ll be interesting to see where the future of the high-flyer lies.

Will Ricochet be joining AEW?

Amid the rumors of his contract expiring, one of Ricochet’s greatest rivals, Will Ospreay, posted a playful tease on social media. The Aerial Assassin posted a photo of their handshake following their 2016 NJPW classic. As expected, this sparked a lot of buzz online.

With the report of the One and Only intending to leave WWE this summer, it wouldn’t be surprising to see him end up in AEW. For what it’s worth, the Jacksonville-based promotion will be a more suitable environment for Ricochet to thrive in. 

In fact, the high-flyer could turn the clock back against Ospreay, who’s been flourishing since arriving in AEW. The International Champion will be facing Swerve Strickland for the AEW World Championship at the upcoming Forbidden Door pay-per-view.
