BLASPHEMY- NASCAR Twitter goes crazy as Joe Gibbs Racing unveils electric Next-Gen car

Joe Gibbs Racing has been part of some of the shockers in the cup garage this year. The death of JGR vice-chairman Coy Gibbs just hours after his son Ty Gibbs secured the 2022 Xfinity series title was the biggest one of them all. The departure of Kyle Busch after 15 successful seasons and Gibbs replacing him for 2023 were also big shockers.

Joe Gibbs and co now have shocked the NASCAR community with their electric-NextGen car. The JGR garage produced an electric version of the 7th gen cup car to train the pit crew.  This allows the TRD front runners to cut down the cost of pit-crew taring and is also beneficial in curbing their carbon footprint.

The Toyota Camry has a red paint scheme similar to the one Cristopher Bell used this season. A video of the vehicle in action was posted on the social media accounts of JGR with the caption:

It’s electric. A look at the electric car that our pit crews are going to practice pit stops with here at the shop.

According to the reports from Fox News, the car uses NetGain Motors HyPer 9 electric motors, which are used in forklifts and similar commercial vehicles. These engines are also used in the electric car racing scene. It has a 400-pound battery pack that assures 100 driving. The car’s speed limit is set at 55 mph, which is convenient considering the Pit-lane speed limit in NASCAR is 30mph.

How fans on Twitter reacted to the Joe Gibbs Racing electric car

Fans were bemused by the car and its unveiling. The move has also fired the skepticism that NASCAR will soon go all-electric, something most race fans don’t want to happen.

Most were quick to call the action the end of NASCAR and what the sport stands for though it is just an innovation for practice. There were also some comments appreciating the ingenuity of the team.

It's literally for indoor pit stop practice and nothing else

Okay, so here are my thoughts. If this is the future of NASCAR then I feel they need (probably do) a plan for all those batteries they'll use. What happens in a wreck… to the batteries.. how will they be disposed of

Both electric and gas cars burn, I've personally seen zero cars burning. Well, maybe some gas-powered NASCAR cars but I'm not sure. I do wonder how we could make batteries safer so we don't burn things.

You don't need the gas to practice, just put the can in the right spot

People it's a pit stop practice car you guys are acting like they're racing it on the track my god. They're just saving money so they don't have to keep getting gas for it jeez chill out

No feeling of power? Tell me you’ve never driven an electric car without telling me…there is no greater sensation of sheer power than EVs. I have one with 500hp and it’s unmatched by anything gasoline powered I’ve ever driven, including a 911 or corvette.

That's not a silly idea.

With a replaceable battery pack, this idea is feasible.

I like Formule E, but it's very much an entertainment-oriented motorsport. NASCAR doesn't feel like a sport that could go full electric, it just doesn't work. Hybrid could possibly work, but that's about as far as it can go.

Sooooo…. Everyone poopooing on the EV car. Don't forget, California will be all EV soon. No NASCAR or any racing in Cali if they DON'T go electric at some point. Lots of racin' happens in Cali.

Jokes aside, it’s an impressive innovation by the tea. The JGR athletes and the team will reap the benefit of their innovation as they can now increase the pace of their already record-setting crew. The car helps to cut fuel costs and is more convenient for the crews performing practice runs.
